At Shopify, we help emerging small businesses get off the ground and grow into successful companies. We do this by creating great technology and by making it accessible to people that previously wouldn't be able to afford it.
We are a team of highly dedicated individuals who share two things: a passion for problem-solving, and a commitment to excellence.
It all started with one store. We couldn’t find the kind of easy-to-use ecommerce software we needed, so we built our own. After experiencing our store’s success, we realized that we could share this tool with others and help them sell their products online.
Shopify was founded in 2006 by Tobias Lütke, Daniel Weinand and Scott Lake. The user-friendly platform garnered rave reviews right off the bat, drawing accolades from TechCrunch, The New York Times and Fast Company. Shopify has received $122 million in Series A, B and C funding from OMERS Ventures, Insight Venture Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners, FirstMark Capital, Felicis Ventures, and Georgian Partners.
Today, Shopify powers over 120,000 online retailers including General Electric, Amnesty International, CrossFit, Tesla Motors, Encyclopaedia Britannica, Foo Fighters, GitHub, and more. Our platform lets users easily and quickly create their own online store, without all the technical work involved in developing their own website, or the huge expense of having someone else build it. Merchants can use Shopify to manage all aspects of their shops: uploading products, customizing the design, accepting credit cards, and viewing their incoming orders and completed transactions.
We built Shopify to take the hassle out of running an online store, so our merchants can focus on what they do best: building and selling their products.
“We’ve built a company with exceptional people who are passionate about ecommerce. Our goal is to provide you with all of the tools you need to run a successful business.”
