The pie chart that breaks down social media population has quickly become a sea of blue. Facebook and Twitter are both far beyond being a household name, and people are sharing, liking, tweeting, and commenting on millions upon millions of things each day. If you don't make it easy for your shoppers to share your products or blog posts, you're missing out on a key portion of online marketing.

Everyone here at Shopify wants your store to be talked about, and the easiest way to do that is to enable your stores theme to share content on these major networks. So we've done just that, and I'm proud to introduce Social, a free theme by Shopify:

Up until now, we've written tutorial after tutorial on how you can make your template more socially connected. But without HTML knowledge, things can get a little hairy, so we've gone ahead and taken the hard stuff out of the equation. No more tutorials, no more HTML; just install the free theme, insert your Facebook ID, and away you go.

Social can show your shoppers the like and comment counts for all products and blog posts, it supports a wide selection of Google Web Fonts, and gives you full control over the design of your shop (logo, background, colours, and more). The home page has the ability to feature your Twitter stream, and all products and blog posts have the option of showing Tweet buttons and Google +1 buttons as well. All comments are Facebook driven, which means nearly all activity on your shop can be shown on your shoppers activity feed. I'm also very excited to say that Social is the first official Shopify theme to be entirely translatable. All of the above is controlled via the Theme Settings, so you don't have to touch one bit of code to get a great social media experience up in minutes. Here is a screenshot of all of Social's theme settings.

We've worked closely & collaborated with Facebook to offer you the widest array of plugins that they offer. Jonathan Erich, former head of marketing at Facebook (and now co-founder of Copious.com) gave us some great feedback along the way and wanted to share this:

"The traditional shopping experience has always been a very social event, yet eCommerce has typically been a solo activity. I'm impressed with Shopify's Social theme, built on top of Facebook, which brings full social commerce functionality to your shop and to your customer's shopping experience."

Social comes packed with two template presets, a light (Social) and a dark (Trig):

Social promotes sharing, which promotes business. We hope you like it. :)
