Shopify uses a template language called Liquid to create Shopify themes. It’s straightforward and doesn’t require any previous programming knowledge.
Here’s a quick tutorial to demonstrate how easy it is to learn Liquid:
Let’s make a list of links to the first 3 articles (blog posts) off the frontpage blog.
We’ll start with an HTML list:
<ul id="blogs">
<li></li>
</ul>
Now, let’s tell Shopify to get all the frontpages’ articles:
<ul id="blogs">
{% for article in blogs.frontpage.articles limit: 3 %}
<li></li>
{% endfor %}
</ul>
This says: “For every article in the blog named frontpage, grab its articles, but only the first 3”
Now we have to tell Shopify how to format those articles. We need to know the article’s url, and its title.
<ul id="blogs">
{% for article in blogs.frontpage.articles limit: 3 %}
<li><a href="{{ article.url }}">{{ article.title }}</a></li>
{% endfor %}
</ul>
That’s it! To get the article’s url, it’s just article.url, and to get its title, it’s article.title
The image to the right is what is generated.
