Happy Hippo drives 4.7X return on ad spend and gains 86% new customers with Shopify Audiences

Happy Hippo makes bath products that are safe for kids and fun to use! Started in 2006 by a group of local artisans in Alberta, Canada, Happy Hippo scaled to craft shows and seasonal holiday stores in malls across Canada by 2012. What started as a passion-project on a kitchen table near Sylvan Lake, quickly became a regular private white-label manufacturer for the biggest names in bath and body care.
But after establishing itself in the manufacturer space, Happy Hippo was eager to grow its business under its own brand name. The company was already on Shopify Plus and wanted to test Shopify Audiences as soon as it was available. In its first campaign, 23% of the shop’s sales came from new-to-brand (NTB) customers who were directly attributable to Shopify Audiences. Less than 1% of those buyers had sales activity prior to the campaign, proving that Audiences was the key to unlocking new buyers for Happy Hippo. The campaign also recorded 1.4X return on ad spend (ROAS).
Encouraged by these results, Happy Hippo used the audiences they had created as a 1% seed for Facebook lookalike audiences. The company leveraged the insights offered by Shopify Audiences to deliver the scaled reach that Meta platforms offer, and the results were incredible.
