About Shopify

Opportunity is not evenly distributed. Shopify puts independence within reach for anyone with a dream to start a business. We propel entrepreneurs and enterprises to scale the heights of their potential. Since 2006, we’ve grown to 10,000 employees and generated over $496 billion in sales for millions of merchants in 175 countries.

This is life-defining work that directly impacts people’s lives as much as it transforms your own. This is putting the power of the few in the hands of the many, is a future with more voices rather than fewer, and is creating more choices instead of an elite option.

About you

Moving at our pace brings a lot of change, complexity, and ambiguity—and a little bit of chaos. Shopifolk thrive on that and are comfortable being uncomfortable. That means Shopify is not the right place for everyone.

Before you apply, consider if you can:
  • Care deeply about what you do and about making commerce better for everyone
  • Excel by seeking professional and personal hypergrowth
  • Keep up with an unrelenting pace (the week, not the quarter)
  • Be resilient and resourceful in face of ambiguity and thrive on (rather than endure) change
  • Bring critical thought and opinion
  • Embrace differences and disagreement to get shit done and move forward
  • Work digital-first for your daily work

About the role

Shopify is building the most ambitious marketing team in the world, and we’re on a mission to make commerce better for every brand of every size. As a senior marketer on the team, you’ll architect and execute campaigns that tell powerful stories and drive opportunities for our mid-market Sales teams. You’ll work closely with leaders across the Sales, Product, Marketing, and Leadership teams in a role that balances strategy and hands-on execution.

The ideal candidate will have deep experience marketing software products to executive decision makers through acquisition and upgrade channels. This person has demonstrated an elite ability to think like a product marketer to understand the underlying product and market dynamics that underpin hard-hitting campaign content. This role requires someone who is highly creative, understands the full breadth of B2B marketing channels, and knows how to drive results.

Responsibilities

  • Context Mastery: Quickly cultivate deep mastery of the product, market and customer context across the commerce landscape to inform strategy and tactics.
  • Audience Foundations: Develop the underlying messaging, persona, and narrative documents that cross-functional teams will draw on in order to operate efficiently on top of a set of shared mental models.
  • Campaign Strategy: Architect big, full-funnel campaigns that exceed the business' objectives, and shift how decision makers think about building their businesses.
  • Content Leadership: Provide the necessary insights and direction to support our content partners in creating high-impact content to anchor our campaigns.
  • Hold a High Bar: Live in the details of the work to ensure that everything produced is immensely creative, takes a strong point of view, reflects the Shopify brand in an inspiring way, and impacts the pipeline beyond expectations.
  • Live the Funnel: Immerse yourself in the sales and marketing funnel to discern where to invest and what tactics to deploy in order to find new sources of growth.
  • Partner with Sales Leadership: Partner closely with Sales leadership to identify leading indicators of opportunity, and execute outbound campaign motions in close partnership with the Sales team.
  • Communicate Broadly: Become prolific at sharing plans, results, and opportunities with stakeholders across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a B2B SaaS environment (commerce is a bonus)
  • Proficiency building and launching large, full-funnel, B2B marketing campaigns
  • Expertise in translating product marketing narratives, positioning, and packaging content and campaigns that drive pipeline.
  • History of exceeding results through both acquisition and customer upgrades channels
  • A brilliant communicator who can galvanize large working teams towards big milestones
  • Demonstrated ability to dig deep into data to find and actionable insights
  • 8+ years experience in marketing with a minimum of 5+ years leading campaigns at a technology company
  • Deep understanding of the B2B technology buying cycle
  • Ability to manage internal communications across many different teams to ensure alignment around priorities, objectives, and results
  • Confidence in managing executive stakeholder relationships
  • Ability to balance and shift between high level strategic thinking and tactical, detail-oriented execution

The shape of a Shopify career

Ben joined Shopify as a frontline Support Advisor with no background in programming or computer science. He’s now a Director of Engineering. Spanning 10 jobs on 7 teams in 9 years, Ben’s Shopify career path has twisted and turned as he’s worked relentlessly to pursue a career as an engineer and adapted to the pace of change—all fuelled by personal and professional hypergrowth.

Our mission as a company is to spread entrepreneurship and help individuals become their own bosses and take control over their lives. I truly believe this mission and value in extreme personal growth and development extends to what’s expected as a Shopifolk. Shopify doesn’t like to tell people what to do. Not only is your career in your own hands, a lot of your day-to-day is too, which can be jarring for many people. To thrive here, you need to be someone who’s willing to take big bets on yourself and figure things out on your own.
