Choose your own recruiting adventure...
Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Waterloo
A conversation between two team members over Slack:
Bronwyn [2:22 PM] : I think it's time for another round of Recruiter Roulette. We need more people on our team asap - I think we need to post the job tmw.
Aly [2:23 PM] : Sounds good to me. What are we doing for the posting?
Bronwyn [2:26 PM] : What do you think about a "choose your own adventure" type post? Like the one they've used on the engineering team. Choose your own recruiting adventure: Research, Recruiting, or Coordination
Aly [2:28 PM]: Love it, I'll have to take a look at that engineering posting and put something together.
Bronwyn [2:30 PM]: Awesome!! 👊
Aly [2:31 PM]: 👊
Consider it done, Bronwyn.
We’re looking for people to join one of Shopify’s fastest growing, hardest working, and impactful teams: Talent Acquisition. Our mission in Talent Acquisition (TA) is to build Shopify by designing high-impact teams where the best people are in the right roles at the right time. Shopify is the world’s fastest growing commerce platform, and we need to find more people to find more people.
Most of us on this team didn’t know this was the career path we would take. Now that we’ve found it, we wouldn’t dream of doing anything else. This is a unique team in that you don’t necessarily need to have prior experience in the field to succeed. Many of our team members came from diverse backgrounds before working at Shopify: some of us were art historians, chemists, marketers, graphic designers, salespeople, servers, and software developers.
Even though our experiences have been different, here are some things that we all have in common:
- We are lifelong learners. We are constantly teaching ourselves new things and we love learning from others.
- We are genuinely curious about the people around us and their lives. We like listening more than talking and people feel comfortable opening up to us.
- We are sensitive and empathetic.
- We are comfortable being ourselves and as a result, make others feel comfortable being themselves when they’re around us.
Below you'll find brief overviews of the different roles available in Talent Acquisition - take a gander and if any of these pique your interest, we'd love to hear from you!
Recruiter 👋 😄
As a recruiter working closely with the business you are able to match the best people to the right roles at the right time. You are able to help identify the best strategy regarding talent in order for the team to accomplish their goals. You are also able to identify where to find talent both internally and externally, finding the best candidates through applicants, referrals and passive candidates. You are an expert in the area of the business you support. You know what the teams at Shopify are working on, what their goals are, and how that fits into Shopify’s overall goals.
Researcher 🤓 🔎
As a researcher you are focused on bringing the best to our attention by creating a campaign for the searches you’re working on that includes a job posting strategy and sourcing and outreach strategy. You are on top of industry trends and know who the top talent is in the field. You know where talent is located geographically and have a sense of the availability of talent at different impact levels.
Coordinator 😎 🤙
TA coordinators make up the one Shopify team whose primary role revolves around candidate experience. As a coordinator you are focused on efficiently bringing candidates and interviewers together so that an assessment can be made regarding their potential value add to the company. You are also thinking about building for the long term and how we can ensure each candidate we interact with, whether hired or otherwise, leaves the recruitment process as an advocate for Shopify.
