As a Launch Consultant, you specialise in onboarding merchants to Shopify Plus and Shopify Retail, working with them to ensure they have a clear plan and timeline for their launch. You are a dedicated accountability partner, working directly with merchants and their partners to provide resources and guidance to help them successfully launch with Shopify Plus and Shopify Retail. 

This role is part technical consultant, account management and project management. As an expert generalist across the expanding Shopify platform and ecosystem, you educate merchants on commerce best practice, consult on their ecommerce technology stack and business objectives, and provide guidance on how to best leverage Shopify. You also advise on best practises around complex integrations and provide solutions to expedite their build time while setting them up for long-term success on our platform!

These are high-value, high complexity merchants with accompanying high expectations of the service we provide. They require dedicated guidance to meet their extremely high expectations of the platform and the people who work on it. You help break down technical barriers to enable our sales, partners and merchant success teams to show these merchants how they can accelerate the growth of their business with Shopify.

Due to the complex nature of these builds (technical, operational and organisational), these merchants expect a deep knowledge of the Shopify platform and ecosystem, and benefit from strong stakeholder management. These merchants’ organisations are typically challenging to navigate, with many different stakeholders involved including multiple solution providers and agencies at the same time.

It’s a challenging role, and an enormously rewarding one for the right person.


  • Be an expert generalist across the expanding Shopify platform and ecosystem; online store, Shopify Plus, Retail, Payments, Partner and App ecosystem, and more

  • Share learnings and best practises with the rest of the Launch Consultants Team, constantly iterating and improving the merchant experience and internal operations

  • Demonstrate strong aptitude in stakeholder management, multi-layered solutioning, systems thinking, and navigating complex relationships

  • Consult with merchants on novel and complex shop functionality and business system integrations

  • Manage a portfolio of merchants (20-25) and work with the merchants’ development teams and operations teams to help design a solution for them on the platform. Whilst you will not necessarily be building or implementing the solution, you will however be acting as a trusted advisor and expert generalist during the build

  • Build bi-directional relationships with a number of adjacent teams within Shopify including Solution Engineering, Service Delivery, Sales, Merchant Success, Risk & Legal, Product teams, and many more

  • Provide technical consulting support and feedback to those teams

  • Support our 1:many Launch service model by engaging in consultations with merchants and triaging escalated support tickets

  • Good to know but not a requirement: Up to 10% of time will be travelling for in-person meetings and events and may include international travel.


  • Native/bilingual or full professional proficiency in English

  • Native/bilingual or full professional proficiency in German

  • Deep commerce knowledge of the German/DACH market and international markets

  • Experience working in an application ecosystem and integrating 3rd party technologies (ideally into the Shopify platform)

  • Experience working with enterprise SaaS applications

  • Strong web API knowledge and experience with client-side development (JavaScript, HTML, & CSS). Shopify Plus merchants often want to create custom apps and you must be able to understand API documentation and use a REST client to conceptualise an API solution. You will need to help merchants understand what's possible, where to start, and what the best path to implementation is

  • ‘Solutions mindset’. Our largest and most complex merchants like to push the boundaries of commerce and will often build custom solutions within their architecture to help them get there

  • Strong time management and prioritisation skills to support a wide portfolio of merchants with multiple requests coming through at the same time, and the ability to re-prioritise on an ongoing basis

  • Great troubleshooting & analytical skills combined with the desire and resourcefulness to tackle challenges head-on

  • Agile project management mindset. This is not a true project management role, but does share some skills with it, especially managing expectations and prioritising deliverables

  • Comfortable working from home in a company where everyone is a remote worker

  • Growth mindset that thrives on change in a dynamic environment. We evolve at a rapid pace and things change quickly!

  • Curious mind for how things work, what purpose they serve and why they exist

  • Affinity for helping and teaching others; including merchants, partners and colleagues

  • Deep desire for self improvement and exploring how you can become your best future self, and how that can create impact at Shopify

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills plus great video and in-person presence

Bonus experience:

  • Previously built out and advised on technical solutions & integrations for ecommerce brands

  • Working knowledge of the Shopify API (REST and GraphQL)

  • Migrating large or complex data sets via CSV or API

  • Deep understanding of technical strategy as it relates to operating and growing a commerce business

  • Running your own business or building your own apps on Shopify. You know what it means to be an entrepreneur, and can empathise and share your learnings with our merchants

  • Familiarity with version control systems and development environments (git/Github is a plus)

  • Development experience. You’ll be speaking often with developers and technical teams and need to be able to speak their language. (HTML, CSS, Liquid, Ruby, Javascript, etc.)

  • Working with Liquid, the Shopify templating language. You won't need to build a theme but you should know how to make small changes and what's possible with our themes

  • Educating merchants on proper store setup (domains, redirects, product taxonomy, building collections, shipping, etc)

  • Consulting with merchants on interesting and complex shop functionality and business system integrations

  • Helping our merchants to convert their store ideas into real and actionable plans.
