About the role

As the Marketing Operations Lead, you will champion the development of our global marketing strategy and plan - with support from marketing and commercial leaders, manage and facilitate our global budget and annual planning, own our project management processes, and provide strategic decision support for senior leadership.  

Reporting into the Head of Global Marketing, you are an analytical thinker that can quickly grasp the nuances of the Shopify product and business model, and can translate disparate information into meaningful insights.  You collaborate seamlessly across commercial functions, creating structure amongst chaos and designing actionable solutions that meet a diverse set of commercial needs. You are an innovative leader who can inspire and guide the Marketing team to think 10X. 

What you’ll get to work on:

  • In collaboration with Marketing and Commercial leaders, champion the development of our annual global GTM plan 

  • Establish longer term marketing planning alongside Shopify global business plans

  • Own the development and management of our global marketing budget with the support of Finance 

  • Champion the delivery of goal setting & alignment frameworks across Marketing including: our OKR process, project management processes and strategy development processes

  • Work with senior marketing and commercial leadership to tackle both marketing and cross functional strategic challenges and opportunities 

  • Lead, inspire and help uplevel our fast growing global marketing organization


  • A background in market strategy and operations 

  • Leadership experience and a desire to build and shape a function in its infancy

  • The ability to tell compelling, persuasive, data-driven stories

  • A track record of being able to ingest and analyze multiple inputs and develop a strategic perspective on broad issues across the business  

  • Have a strong grasp of how competitive and market forces impact decision making for businesses in real life

  • Effectively partner and influence senior stakeholders from multiple disciplines

  • Thrive in an ambiguous and ever changing environment

  • The ability to think big and also be equally resourceful and innovative in bringing your ideas to fruition

  • Embrace failure, and do things you might not be good at or have never done before
