About the role

As a merchant marketing lead, you will be responsible for managing the entire merchant lifecycle and more specifically, two teams focused on the acquisition and retention of merchants. This is a senior role and critical on the EMEA regional marketing team. This role will drive both the acquisition of merchants, partnering closely with demand gen and partner marketing, to acquire merchants in our pre-sales segments and partner closely with the merchant success teams and community managers to help engage and retain merchants across EMEA, again based on thoughtful segmentation. 

This is a senior role, reporting into the regional marketing director and leading a team of between 10-15 people. We need someone who is strategic, can understand the business quickly, identify gaps and provide solutions. They should be someone who can build relationships cross-functionally and across time zones, and is an independent thinker and problem solver, with a compassionate leadership style.  We are looking for someone who has built and led successful teams, can hire and coach for potential, is a strategic marketer, not afraid to take risks and be a thought partner to their peers and leaders. 

This is a rare role, in an even rarer company. This role will be a thought partner, influencer and decision maker, driving impact across the region and globally for Shopify. Responsibilities

  • Map the merchant journey both pre and post-sales (through thoughtful segmentation) and build teams that define the messaging and targeted campaigns for these segments. 

  • Drive merchant acquisition by partnering with the appropriate functions including growth, GTM, demand generation, data, sales and more. KPIs will include net new merchant additions and revenue, in addition to MQLs and opps. 

  • Determine the strategy to engage the existing merchant base across Europe, thinking through segments, languages and building online and offline communities.  Metrics will include churn, CSAT, advocacy, etc. 

  • Define the global-regional model i.e what can be leveraged from global campaigns vs what needs to be created net new regionally, and how we leverage global teams while building regional teams for hyperlocal strategies. 

  • Partner with sales, merchant success and market expansion teams to determine how we enter markets thoughtfully and define what success looks like. 

  • Leverage data to inform and influence decision-making in collaboration with business partners.

Qualifications

  • 8-10  years of marketing experience (ideally in SAAS) and proven abilities in being able to build, develop, and manage a diverse marketing team and portfolio (spanning acquisition and customer marketing)

  • 5-8 years of experience building and leading diverse, geographically dispersed teams who have had demonstrable impact. 

  • Demonstrable experience having influenced and collaborated with multiple functions, and time zones.

  • 5-8 years of experience building GTM strategy for a region or country, particularly in a B2B marketing role.

  • Loves working in a fast paced, constantly changing environment. This is someone who isn’t afraid of change and can thrive in it.
