About the role
As the Digital Marketing Manager, Japan you’ll work closely with the local Japan team as well as the APAC Digital Marketing Lead to define, build, and scale our digital marketing efforts across Japan. This will include working across paid and organic channels, website strategy and conversion optimisation in order to deliver a unified and seamless experience for our Japan merchants, as they interact with the Shopify brand across multiple channels.
Your day-to-day role will include working across strategy, planning, execution, and scaling of our regional websites and channel marketing plans to reach and acquire new merchants. Reporting into the Digital Marketing Lead, APAC, you will work collaboratively across multiple teams globally, including Integrated Marketing, UX, Sales, Merchant Success, Growth Marketing, Events, Content, Web, and Product Marketing, as well as external partners to manage and optimise the performance of our Go-To-Market channel strategies.
You have a hands-on background across a breadth of digital marketing channels, love to get into the data and thrive on building out cross-functional user-focused digital marketing campaigns - owned, earned, on-page and off-page. You will understand all stages of the marketing funnel and how to apply these across our channels to provide our audience with the right messaging at the right stage, with short and long-term conversion goals always at the forefront of your strategies.
You understand the importance of building foundational elements, while at the same time not losing sight of the aspirational. You love to experiment and try new things, and aren’t afraid to be curious or inquisitive.
You have a good understanding of and an appreciation for the nuances in the local Japan market to be able to develop localised acquisition strategies to reach, surprise, and delight new audiences.
Day-to-day strategy and implementation across key paid marketing channels - work closely with an external partner agency to ensure ongoing and rigorous optimisation including but not limited to Google Search and Display and relevant local social media channels
Actionable input into optimisation of organic channels including SEO/social + on-page conversion optimisation and localisation
Be the local regional expert - take existing global & regional digital marketing strategies and localise for the Japan market
Develop an audience-led approach, ensuring we prioritise audience segments based on product-market fit per country
Identify and experiment any new local digital marketing channels & implement
Contribute to local market strategy, evaluate the marketing channels that contribute in the strongest way to active merchant growth
Internal and External Stakeholder Management:
Partner with counterparts within the Japan country team to ensure a fully localised and integrated digital marketing strategy
Partner with our Growth Marketing team to develop plans, and find new and innovative ways to optimise across search, display and social as well as feed into email automation, content and experimental channels
Work closely with global equivalents to ensure our Japan strategy aligns with broader Shopify approaches while also maintaining a local-first approach
Work closely with other disciplines across our APAC team to continually optimise local campaign messaging including sales, marketing automation, MUX and brand teams
Partner and manage external agencies and 3rd parties where relevant to deliver successful digital marketing strategies
3-5 years of hands-on experience in various subject areas of digital marketing - with a focus on performance search & social marketing, display & video. Experience of SEO/CRO preferred.
Experience building high performing digital lead generation campaigns, across all funnel stages including campaign optimisation
Native Japanese language and good English language skills with the ability to communicate across disciplines and teams in other countries
The ability to influence cross functional teams and champion new concepts and ideas
The ability to report on campaign results to evaluate media performance and drive insights
Strong analytical, planning, and organisational skills
Experience evaluating digital creative and campaign landing pages
Knowledge of effective creative messaging
Highly Regarded Qualifications
Rich integrated, B2B marketing experience
Understanding of CRM and digital platforms – Salesforce, Marketo, DMP, attribution modelling systems, Mode/Tableau/Wave, GA360, etc.
Experience working in the tech space or another high-paced industry- it's important to understand our platform and the products we deliver.
Experience of marketing automation & nurture campaigns a bonus
