Senior Frontend Developer (Remote, Europe)

Job post summary
Location EMEA
Team Engineering and Development

About the role

Our Frontend Developers (encompassing web and UX) work closely with software engineering teams, designers and product managers to not only build incredible merchant-facing products, but also developer-facing tools. You’ll use modern technologies and frameworks like Typescript, React, GraphQL and Apollo, and the latest web standards in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, and Ruby on Rails, to develop large front-end web applications that scale and perform well on all devices.

You’ll work across disciplines and are excited about building human-centered experiences. You’ll work closely with the teams that create compelling content, build awareness of Shopify, and communicate stories about Shopify's role in commerce to a global audience. Or, you might focus on creating thoughtful product interfaces for our users, shape our design language, and contribute to our shared component libraries in a maintainable and scalable way.

What’s in it for you:

  • You get to work in a dynamic environment with insanely talented people where new features in large scale products are being shipped regularly
  • You will grow your career and competencies working in an environment where learning is paramount and not restricted by budgets or reporting
  • We give you the freedom to make your own decisions (we trust our employees and are invested in their success)

Qualifications

A few things we would like you to have:

  • Expertise in Javascript, HTML and CSS.
  • Proficiency with at least one Javascript component framework/library (Vue, React, AngularJS or similar).
  • A strong knowledge of modern CSS3 (Flexbox, Grid).
  • A passion and curiosity to constantly learn new things; Shopify changes fast, and we need people who work here to be able to change and learn fast too.
  • Experience with working in a cross-discipline environment with designers and other developers to produce and vet ideas though prototyping early concepts.

It’d be nice if you had experience with:

  • Performance optimisation and any tooling to support auditing.
  • Server-side development and MVC frameworks (e.g. Laravel, Rails, Django)
  • Typescript (or Flow).
  • GraphQL.

We know that looking for a new role can be both exciting and time-consuming, and we truly appreciate your effort. Natalia is an actual real live person (👋🏻) and is looking forward to learning more about you and your interest in joining our team.

At Shopify, we are committed to building and fostering an environment where our employees feel included, valued, and heard. Our belief is that a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion enables us to truly make commerce better for everyone. We strongly encourage applications from people with disabilities, people from gender and sexually diverse communities, racialized people, and/or people with intersectional identities.
