About the role
About the role:
As Shopify continues to grow and expand globally and our teams with it, we are looking to hire a Senior Manager of Operational Accounting to take ownership and lead Shopify’s accounting operations. The Manager will be responsible for overseeing the operational accounting team and systems.
Responsibilities:
Leading and coaching the Operational Accounting team, which includes accounts payable, employee expenses and credit cards. We require a meaningful understanding of bill payments and taxes across various jurisdictions
Scaling our operational accounting efforts with increasing global and volume complexities
Ensuring accurate monthly, quarterly, and year end close on a timely basis
Ensuring accurate and timely vendor payments and payroll disbursements
Reviewing and ensuring adherence to internal controls related to accounts payable and expenses
Supporting tax reporting and other compliance activities
Supporting external and internal audits
Tracking and monitoring company spend
Preparing account reconciliations
Participating in the implementation, design, and rollout of new business systems
Providing recommendations for process improvements
Working closely with our financial reporting, FP&A, and procurement teams
Qualifications
- Experience working in a global accounting environment
Experience in reviewing and approving high volume vendor purchase orders and invoices
Experience managing a team
Experience in automating processes
Experience working with other stakeholders both within the finance department and the business as a whole
Being a constant learner who loves to take on challenges
Excellent attention to detail with a passion for problem solving
Excellent and proven Excel skills
Experience with Netsuite ERP, Procurement, and Treasury Management softwares
Ability to multitask, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and be able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
Ability to build relationships across different teams
Ability to challenge spending decisions
Bonus experience:
A professional accounting designation (CPA)
Experience using Netsuite, Coupa, and Workday or similar systems
