The team ensures we have a reliable internal network infrastructure so that Shopifolk are connected to the services they need. 

We’re looking for a Senior Network Engineer to join our team. In this role, you’ll help the Shopifolk on your team develop their craft and guide their technical skills growth. You’ll also maintain our internal network infrastructure and enhance our ability to prevent, detect, and respond to network performance issues by leading projects and collaborating with other teams and stakeholders.

  • Be hands on with hardware rack and stack, configuration and testing

It'd be great if you had experience with:

  • Managing projects
  • Working in a DevOps environment
  • Owning design projects to improve and redesign network infrastructure and services
  • OSX-based systems in a large scale network
  • Solid experience with IP protocols such as IPv4, IPv6, TCP, UDP, STP, ECMP, NHRP, etc
  • Experience maintaining network infrastructure and services (DNS, DHCP, Syslog, etc) and switching/routing (Aruba, Juniper, pfSense, VYOS)
  • Experience with Layer 3 Routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, VRF, etc
  • Experience with stateful firewalls, non-stateful filtering, and packet inspection
  • Experience with VPNs (GRE, IPSec/SSL, OpenVPN), Wireless (802.1a/b/g/n), Multicast (PIM-SM, MSDP, IGMP)

You'll be working on things like:

  • Designing and maintaining wired and wireless networks for Shopify offices - this sometimes includes travel across Europe and Canada
  • Building relationships with Shopifolk all around the world to ensure a consistent user-friendly experience 
  • Monitoring infrastructure using open source tools like Icinga and Prometheus
  • Creating dashboards and graphing data collected from network devices like Grafana and DataDog
  • User support, network troubleshooting, and related issues
  • Collaborating on projects to improve and enhance our networks
  • Assisting the team with a ticketing system, project tracking tools, and on-call schedules
  • Realizing team goals in identifying the indicators of system usability and steps required to enhance performance
  • Determining time frames and schedules for maintenance tasks
  • Conducting quality control and performance analysis via tests and inspections of products, services, and processes
  • Learning and collaborating on automation projects using tools like Ansible
  • Exploring best practices to improve internal network services
