About the role

Solution Engineering plays a key role in helping merchants to choose Shopify. In pre-sales, we build merchant confidence by acting as a technical business consultant. To get this done, we partner with the Sales team to drive the sales process. We understand business requirements and develop a technical sales strategy. We build product demos that help merchants visualize their future with Shopify and provide business value. The impact we make daily is in helping merchants simplify and grow their business. When we do this, we contribute to Shopify's mission of “making commerce better for everyone”.

The Solution Engineering Lead is responsible for defining and scaling a team that will provide solutioning services to merchants in the Shopify sales funnel across UKI+Nordics. The Solution Engineering Lead is ultimately responsible for the team’s revenue contribution, merchant retention through onboarding, and solution enablement for Shopify. While working closely with the Sales Organization, this role would be part of the broader Technology Services leadership group in EMEA, and would also encompass strategic initiatives that would impact all merchant facing teams.

Major Responsibilities

  • Develop and grow a team of Solutions Engineers

  • Create a collaborative and engaging culture to reward effective technical sales, responsibility and long term merchant success

  • Identify and secure merchants that are a strong fit for the platform

  • Identify opportunities to scale the impact of the Shopify Plus solution  

  • Build and maintain internal relationships (Sales, Launch, Product...etc.) while advocating for prospective and current merchants

  • Identify and own initiatives to improve and develop the team’s craft and performance

  • Coach, mentor and develop the team through strong and frequent feedback 

  • Directly contributing to deals to gain context and understanding of the Solutions Engineer role

Priorities

  • Develop, iterate and manage the engagement model with the sales team while effectively increasing deal win rates.

  • Optimize an onboarding path for new hires and development paths for current team members.

  • Define clear expectations of the Solution Engineering role, as well as job levels and career paths utilizing metrics, goals and skill sets.

  • Coach and amplify the impact of the Solution Engineering and broader Technical Services team.

  • Facilitate a strong team culture based on trust.

Qualifications

  • Leadership Experience in managing merchant facing teams and technical teams.

  • Strong technical background, with demonstrated success in Pre-Sales and/or merchant facing roles.

  • Can demonstrate a clear understanding of metrics based performance coaching.

  • Experience in B2B SaaS Environment.

  • Must enjoy being a part of the pre sales process and working with sales teams.

  • Ability to speak comfortably to Shopify’s platform, roadmap, major tech partners, competition, and common enterprises merchant integrations & challenges.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally with other departments within Plus to provide a valuable and consistent Merchant Experience.
