Often shoppers will add items to their cart and not make a purchase, it’s normal and happens often. However Carrie Bailey-Morey, owner of Callies Biscuits (with her biscuits featured on Oprah, Martha Stewart and in the NY Times), has found a great way to convert her abandoned orders into happy customers.
Each week, we gather up all email address from customers who have abandoned their orders. We send a personal message thanking them for visiting our site and ask if they had any technical trouble completing their order. This does 2 things:
1. Customers who had forgotten to complete their orders often do so after receiving this email.
2. If there was a specific reason why they didn’t order, it gives us a chance to talk and help them, possibly resulting into a sale.
It’s a great excuse to communicate directly to your customers.
“We noticed that you tried to order some of our biscuits this week, and the order wasn’t complete. We just wanted to make sure it wasn’t a technical error on our site. Please let us know if you have any questions or did in fact have any problems. Thanks for visiting our site, and we hope you come back very soon!
You are also welcome to give us a call and we’ll take your order over the phone: 843 577-1198 (Also if you are receiving this email in error and your order is complete and on it’s way, sorry for the message, and please disregard!)”
This is an easy tip to put in practice and measure its success rate, so give it a try and see if it works for your store.
Where to find your abandoned orders
Step: 1 You can find your abandoned orders by visiting the order overview screen.
Step: 2 Then click on the Abandoned orders link on the right side, under Payment Status.
