Ada Blackjack is a brand of handcrafted bags & leather goods founded by Ivonne Schippers and Lucas Onofre in Barcelona. The brand is inspired by Ada Blackjack, an Inuit woman who was the heroic and sole survivor of a two year expedition on the uninhabited Wrangel Island in northern Siberia. Ada Blackjack stands for resilience, endurance and bravery.
All our products are made at our studio in Barcelona using very selected fabrics, leather and hardware. We sell to international customers, mainly the US, Europe and Japan.
Ivonne started making bags and leather goods in 2012 during a period in between jobs. When doing that she discovered a real talent and the brand was born. The project took flight when we partnered with Verena Michelitsch & Tobias van Schneider to develop our brand identity and design our shop in Shopify.
How did you earn your first sales? Which channels are now generating the most traffic and sales for you?
Following the launch of our brand early last year, we were lucky to be featured in some great online blogs and publications. Our first sales came shortly after the launch.
We were also very proactive to introduce our brand and collection to bloggers and journalists.
This way we started to get visibility and our audience started to grow, and so did our online communities on Facebook, Tumblr and Instagram.
Today we're still getting referral traffic, but increasingly we have more and more visitors coming back, people looking for us in Google as well as visitors from our social channels.
Tell us about the back-end of your business. What tools and apps do you use to run your store? How do you handle shipping and fulfillment?
We love working with the Shopify back-end. It´s great and really easy to use. Anything from managing product listings, customer information and shipment works very well.
Recently we opened our Facebook shop which was very simple to set up and it´s an awesome way to bring our products to our community.
We ship our products with the Spanish post. Our back-end has been set up to send customized emails to our clients to confirm order or shipment. It´s very professional, which adds to how customers perceive our brand.
What are your top recommendations for new ecommerce entrepreneurs?
Develop a brand identity that will make your store and products stand out. It's important to be original and authentic.
If you´re selling your own collection, make sure the products hold well together and help you tell the story of your brand.
