I started Baskets By Karon to assist Realtors in enhancing their business with clients.
As a very successful real estate agent, my father always gives his clients a gift at closing. When I asked if he ever received comments about his gifts, he responded that he often receives a call or thank you note. Some agents might feel their work is done at the closing table, but I have personally delivered baskets to his clients and seen the appreciation and smiles they have on their faces for such a nice gesture!
In 2005, I expanded Baskets By Karon by adding "Camp Care Bags" at two established North Georgia camps. I was not prepared for the overwhelmingly positive responses that I received! Not only are parents saved a trip to the store and to the post office, the kids loved receiving "The Happy Camper" bags delivered to them at 'mail call.' Edward Schaefer, Executive Director of Athens Y Camps, reports "These care bags were a great success with our programming."
I am excited to begin a new venture with UGA Online Parent Guide providing college student care packages for the University of Georgia starting this fall. If you have a student at college please check out our new college care packages.
How did you earn your first sales? Which channels are now generating the most traffic and sales for you?
I physically went to the camp and remember selling 6 care packages the 1st session. I thought I was a success! I had no idea how much my business would grow. The past 2 years UGA Parent Guide has selected me to be a care package representative in the parent guide for incoming freshmen. We have come a long way!
Tell us about the back-end of your business. What tools and apps do you use to run your store? How do you handle shipping and fulfillment?
Customers either new or returning place orders through Shopify store. Orders are shipped from UPS in my hometown and arrive each week to a camps 'Mail Call."
What are your top recommendations for new ecommerce entrepreneurs?
Keep it simple, utilize all that Shopify has to offer and go! My business grew with the addition of an ecommerce site and being able to accept credit cards was also a boost. I love that I can keep up with inventory, should I choose to do so.
