I moved from LA to London for love in 2012 and I started spending a lot of time in our kitchen, hiding from the rain and baking to stay warm. I struggled to find baked goods in London that satisfied my cravings and my conscious. My devotion to local farmers, a love of beautiful food and an appreciation for high quality, sustainable ingredients inspired my to start Megpies.

How did you earn your first sales? Which channels are now generating the most traffic and sales for you?

We earned our first sales by word of mouth. Our customers are amazing and love to share us with their friends. Even now, most of our new customers are friends of friends of friends, but a lovely little write up on British Vogue by the very talented and enviably pretty Calgary Avansino also helped to share our handmade, real food message.

Tell us about the back-end of your business. What tools and apps do you use to run your store? How do you handle shipping and fulfillment?

Shopify makes our job easy. All we have to do is log in and we can check on our website, view orders and deliveries, write a blog post and see if we have new customer to get in touch with. Having everything in one place makes our lives so much easier. We love all of the questions we get from fellow bakers on Instagram and how easily we can share our new flavours or events we will be attending on Facebook and Twitter.

What are your top recommendations for new ecommerce entrepreneurs?

If someone loves what you do or knows someone who will, make friends. Having people in your life who appreciate what you are doing and want to help you get your business and message out there is key. Always stay true to yourself and your goals and remain faithful to your demographic. We know we won't be winning over any raw food gurus any time soon, so we aim to please those who share our love of delicious, thoughtfully baked treats made with natural, sustainable, high quality ingredients.
