We are Scott and Minter Richter, and we make custom titanium wedding bands in our shop in Boston's Historic Rum Distillery. Scott is a self-taught metal artist who made custom knives for many years while making titanium rings on the side for friends and family.
Our titanium ring designs developed naturally, using many of the same materials used for the knives. Each ring is handcrafted to order, so customers can be as picky as they want to get a ring that fits their style and personality to a 'T'!
How did you earn your first sales? Which channels are now generating the most traffic and sales for you?
Like many modern day artisans our first sales were on the etsy marketplace, but with our own Shopify website we have more control over content, design and presentation of our unique rings. Shopify also allows us to easily create highly customized orders for our customers. We receive the most traffic to our site through google, pinterest, facebook and wedding blogs.
Tell us about the back-end of your business. What tools and apps do you use to run your store? How do you handle shipping and fulfillment?
The Custom Orders App has been indispensable to us! The majority of our customers want to design their own ring and the custom order app makes it easy to create and execute these types of orders. The Product Options App is also very useful, as we need to apply different options to single rings, ring sets and other accessories we sell on our website.
What are your top recommendations for new ecommerce entrepreneurs?
Shopify is very user-friendly and will allow you to hit the ground running with your business. Don't be afraid to dig in and explore everything you can do behind the scenes to make your website and business the best it can be!
