Owen & Fred was named GQ Magazine's Best of 2012, in the first year it opened. Featured everywhere from Monocle Magazine to People, they transform ordinary and boring men's products into products people love.
One of their most featured products is a simple shaving kit bag, which says: "HEY HANDSOME" on the inside. Because of their Shopify store, HEY HANDSOME is now being distributed to Nordstrom.
How did you earn your first sales? Which channels are now generating the most traffic and sales for you?
We generate most of our sales through organic search, which has been heavily boosted by our stellar approach to PR. We regularly get press hits which not only increase increase unique visitors and sales, but give us nice link love from Google.
Tell us about the back-end of your business. What tools and apps do you use to run your store? How do you handle shipping and fulfillment?
We love Shopify's out of the box back end, which has been a core part of our success. We've tacked on everything from Shipstation to Stitchlabs and from Xero to Mailchimp. We think the platform allows for us to incrementally build. And when we launch retail, we fully expect Shopify's POS to be a core part of our back end.
What are your top recommendations for new ecommerce entrepreneurs?
Make a great product that people will smile (and buy) when they see it. That gets people talking (and buying).
