I lost my job in Sept. 2012, and all of a sudden it hit me, I had to re-visit and completely start over with my resume. It was go-time if I was hoping to transition seamlessly in between pay checks.

I immediately went to the drawing board, and as a creative, I wanted to design a resume that would not only showcase my skills, but also get me noticed, simply because of the uniqueness of my resume. Sure enough, after a few applications, I got the call. After a phone and face to face interview, I got the offer. I heard multiple times from my HR manager and my direct supervisor that my resume was incredibly unique and was a huge reason they called me so fast. Boom, a business opportunity.

I paired up with a friend from college, who is an illustrator as well, and we decided to design around 25-30 resume templates to showcase for the website. We launched in August of 2013, and have worked with over 100 customers in an effort to translate their content into one of our designed templates.

How did you earn your first sales? Which channels are now generating the most traffic and sales for you?

Our first sales were from people who knew us, from either college or people we've worked with throughout the years. We started off rather slow, a few orders a month, but then it started to really pick up. We utilized Facebook and Twitter and really thought that those two platforms would be our "bread and butter." Little did we realize that Pinterest would double our efficiency and literally contribute to almost 75% of our traffic and sales. Simple to say, we love Pinterest and how it works with our business.

Tell us about the back-end of your business. What tools and apps do you use to run your store? How do you handle shipping and fulfillment?

We'll receive an order and our customers' next steps are included in their confirmation e-mail. They will either a) upload their existing resume or b) submit a content form for us to use as the content for their resume. We'll then take their content and open up Adobe Illustrator, find the resume of their choice, and plug in the data. Once we're finished with the design process, we'll present the finished product to our customer and work with them until they are satisfied.

With our resume writing service, we'll consult with our customers via phone or skype, discuss goals, work experience, skills, etc, In an effort to write them the most effective, genuine resume. We'll take the content that we wrote and plug the information into the resume template of their choice.

We simply e-mail our finished products in a PDF. Once they are satisfied, we press "Fulfill" and "Archive." They'll receive a customer satisfaction survey a week after their purchase, so we can collect success stories and/or feedback.

What are your top recommendations for new ecommerce entrepreneurs?

Keep your website clean. Make what you do obvious, so that within the first 10 seconds of someone visiting your site, they know exactly what you do. Provide the highest level of customer service above anything else, give refunds when you flubbed up, and value quality over quantity. We get a LOT of referrals and a bunch of orders purely on word of mouth. Do great work and offer a unique product that people need. With Shopify, they've given you everything you need to be successful.
