While pouring over vintage photos of American workers and admiring their exceptionally made workwear, our design team was inspired to start making clothes the way they used to be made. Workwear was sewn to survive even the toughest jobs, such as: building a railroad across the country to haul timber; logging forests for lumber to build businesses and homes; constructing a home or dry goods business in town.
Our surrounding Appalachian mountain communities and neighboring cities were pioneered and established by these types of hard-working folks who needed durable clothing to live in as they worked to persevere as railroad engineers, lumberjacks and carpenters. Our country's modern industrial economy was proudly established by their determination and dedication to manual labor.
The more we learned about these vintage pieces and how they functioned for various occupations, we found classic design details that allowed more freedom of movement. They could easily bend and stretch with ergonomic gussets in the crotch, shoulders and armpits that were hand-sewn by loving wives or mothers so their men could work more comfortably. We decided to embrace this time-honored handcrafted approach with every piece of apparel we design and manufacture in America for American workers.
As we embrace our vintage workwear heritage, Steam Horse Dry Goods Co. brings you the best quality American made clothing for you to feel good while functioning on the job site or simply looking good off the job. This is our story... we engineer functional clothes to live and work in.
