🏰 Ports
Our Ports are kinda like clubhouses for Shopifolk. They’re where players from different teams come together in a central hub to solve really hard problems together, and have a ton of fun doing it. It’s GSD at massive scale. Whether it’s Toronto, Ottawa, Montréal, New York, or Bellevue, drop in whenever you’re in town. Local access is always on tap with everything you need to hack, pair, fuel up, and nerd out with fellow brilliant minds.
⏰ Timezones
Commerce never sleeps, and Shopify doesn’t either. We generally optimize for the Eastern Time zone (Oh, Canada!) but we’ve got people working around the clock, around the globe, to support merchants and entrepreneurs when and where they need us. Working hours and schedules vary from team to team, Shopifolk to Shopifolk, but we’re tightly aligned across the rocketship no matter when we’re shipping.
⚔️ Battlestations
Our home base. Where the magic happens. Where we lock in (with a fast and steady internet connection), a brand new desk and chair (shoutout to the perks!), and the tech n’ tools you need to make an impact from Day 1. Bonus points for showing off your setup in #battlestations. Let the games begin.
🤝 IRL
We come together when it’s obvious we need to connect. That might be big link ups in big numbers like Shopify’s annual Summit in Toronto, where thousands of Shopifolk connect with each other, and our mission. It also might be Hack Days at a Port where we prototype, build, and ship fast. Or maybe it’s GSD-driven Bursts to solve gnarly problems that can only be tackled in person. Travel happens about 3x a year, starting with Startup Connections (aka in-person onboarding with your new cohort), Shopify Summit, and at least one Burst.
🔋 Trust battery
We are a high-trust company. We fundamentally trust you and treat you as an adult. We won’t tell you what to wear or how to best do your job. We give you the tools and resources you need to make decisions and we trust you to make the right ones.
There’s a blueprint for success at Shopify, it’s called the trust battery and how it works is quite simple. When you join this company, you’re trusted more than a stranger on the street but there’s still lots of room to charge up your trust battery. As you invest in your battery and do good things, the charge will grow. At some point, your trust battery will be considered full enough for you to take ‘shots on goal.’
This battery exists between every two people here, as well as between product and service lines, teams, offices, etc. As we grow and scale our company, gaps (we call these opportunities) will emerge. Ultimately you will want your battery to be full enough for you to step into an opportunity and say, “I've got this.”
