How did you earn your first sales? Which channels are now generating the most traffic and sales for you?
We had a different eCommerce platform before deciding to do a relaunch on Shopify. Needless to say the Shopify Platform has helped us in many ways, from being able to design a more attractive and modern site to giving customers more options on shipping, products and payments. We made our first Shopify sale the evening of our relaunch and have been breaking sales records every month!
Tell us about the back-end of your business. What tools and apps do you use to run your store? How do you handle shipping and fulfillment?
We currently use 10 shopify apps to assist in the day to day operations. We have integrated our shop with Shipworks shipping software and our orders populate automatically to our shipstation. After we ship the tracking information is automatically sent to shopify to fulfill our orders, this also sends the customer an email letting them know the order has been shipped. We also have an app that created and maintains an app for iPhone and Android. We use the built in shipping application to provide accurate and precise shipping quotes to our customers, we also provide a free basic shipping method to all of our customers in the continental United States.
What are your top recommendations for new ecommerce entrepreneurs?
Before you start building your new site take a significant portion of time to look at your competition and find out what they are not doing for the customer, find something that you do that is unique and special and make that your focal point. Also when designing your site take a look at other selling sites and see what they are doing to be successful, ask current customers, employees, friends and family what they look for when shopping online. The worst thing that can happen is making the wrong choice on design and having a site that sells the most amazing product in the world but is an eyesore and next to impossible to shop.
