Welcome to a new way of looking at your theme setup! In this lesson, I’ll introduce myself and walk through what we’ll be covering in the course.

Before we get much further, you’ll also learn just what a theme includes— don’t worry, you won’t need to have a theme to work through this course so everyone is welcome. Our approach is great for anyone looking to improve their existing theme or looking to set up their first online store.

Today, I'm going to help you better understand your customer journeys and use that information when setting up your theme. Thanks so much for joining me. My name is Teresa, and I'm the head of marketing for our themes team at Pixel Union. We've worked closely with Shopify for over eight years, providing industry leading themes, apps, and services that help entrepreneurs build, launch, and grow their online stores on the Shopify platform.
Over the years, we've learned a lot about what shoppers love, and we continue to improve our products so that you can offer the best customer experience possible. In this course, we'll focus on improving your online store's customer experience and draw parallels between shopping online and shopping in person. Understanding the full customer journey will help you make more informed choices when designing and setting up your store.
By the end of this course, you'll be more confident making customizations in the Shopify theme editor, and will understand how to create a great overall experience for your customers. You can use the lessons learned here with any Shopify theme. If you haven't picked one yet, don't worry, this course will help you understand what to look for in the theme. If you're brand new to Shopify, you might be asking yourself, what is a theme?
A theme is what controls the look and feel of your store. It's everything your customers interact with as they shop. From the moment they land on your storefront to the moment they click the Check Out button, that's your theme. Themes are often seen as a template but they are so much more than that. They are a powerful tool that you can use to build a strong business founded on great customer experience.
There's a common journey your customers take as they shop and you can leverage your theme to help offer a thoughtful experience every step of the way. Let's get started.
