[MUSIC PLAYING] As a small business owner, I know there's only a limited amount of time to set up search ads, set up free marketing ads, and set up Google Shopping ads. It's a lot and as a business owner, I have a lot of other things I need to do. Google's Ad Manager is a powerful tool and as a lot you can do with it. If you've got the time and money, definitely dive in but if you're just looking to get start with the advertising, I think you'll like what we've built into Shopify.
0:34
We've added Google's smart shopping ads directly into Shopify and all you have to do is set up the integration, choose your budget and Google's artificial intelligence does the rest. Google will learn your business, your keywords and pull images from your site, and run ads through search display and remarketing, and even YouTube. It's all automated and constantly improves itself, as it gets feedback as to what's working and what's not.
1:06
As a product lead at Shopify is an exciting addition to the Shopify admin but as a business owner, I'm absolutely ecstatic about this. It combines all my advertising into one easy to manage campaign, that is constantly improving on itself and maximizing returns. If you can follow along with your own online store and I'll show you how to set up smart shopping ads.
1:32
So now I'm going to walk you through the Google Shopping app. You can download this app from the app store. It's a free app made by Shopify. If I'm going to my app section, I'm going to jump right into the app. I'm going to show you just how you would get started. So the first thing you need is a Google account. I would recommend setting up a business email for this. Once you have that Google account, then you can connect to a Merchant Center account.
2:00
If you don't have a Merchant Center account, that's perfectly all right. We worked with Google to have a one click Setup for your Merchant Center account. Once you have that Merchant Center account, we're going to sync all the data from your shop, shipping settings and everything like that. But one thing I wanted to point out was these SEO titles and there we give you the option of using. So when Google is setting up your shopping ads, they take all the product data you have from your Shopify store and they use that as the creative of the ad.
2:33
One thing you may want to do is use a different title for Google than you would for your website. So I'm just going to show you where you customize that. So if you jump into your product page given that this is a phone case and not coffee beans, I probably need to improve the description here. So that this shows up for that phone case, instead of coffee beans.
2:59
So we're going to go to the bottom here where I can edit the SEO. And I can change this to be coffee iPhone phone case. So now the advantage is I have this description, that's going to show up if you're searching for iPhone case. It's going to show up for iPhone X, iPhone XS. I can also change the URL to be a little simpler here.
3:29
So now I go ahead and I save this and what we've done is we've made an SEO title, that's going to show up far better in our search results. When I'm going into building my ads, now instead of just seeing that product title, we're going to see that description that's optimized for search. Next I'm going to walk you through the ads part.
3:55
So once you've selected your Merchant Center account and you've configured your products and shipping and all that good stuff, you can connect to your Google Ads account. Again, if you don't have that AdWords account yet, Shopify and Google will create one for you on one click. Once you've gone ahead and set up that ads account, you also get access to a coupon. So once you spend $25, you get $100 and free ad credits, so that you can really let that ad run and you can get all that data, and-- you know, it's free.
4:30
So next, we're going to go ahead and actually create that first campaign. So over here my products are still syncing. Once you've synced your products to Google, someone from Google will manually review your site and give you feedback on the important things. So the most important things, when your product is being reviewed, is that you have a easy way to be contacted.
4:55
You have a clear terms of service and that you're not selling any products that are illegal according to Google. They have a whole lot more information on what products they do allow and what not but you also just have the option of choosing not to sync those products. Once your products have been approved, you're going to go ahead and you can just create ads. So we're going to do this right here.
5:19
I just click Create Campaign. And now I'm just going to make some tweaks in here. So this campaign is my new audience and I'm going to call this my Google. Now again, we've talked about budget. The basic idea start with $5. If you want to learn faster, you could increase it to something like $10.
5:45
And you can tweak this at any time. An important thing as you're putting together these ads is you need to let them run, give them a couple weeks, give them 30 days is what Google suggests to let them to rank, to start to shop, and start to optimize their creative. So from here, I just click Publish and there you go. After this a few things happen.
6:11
Google looks at each of your product pages and pulls the images and determines related keywords. Google's artificial intelligence will create an audience based on Search terms and start showing your products to these groups. It will make the most efficient bid possible, so that your ad gets exposure without overspending. Then it will automatically create product specific audiences, who visited each page.
6:39
These audiences will be served up retargeting ads, based on the product they looked at. Because everything is automated, you need to make sure that you have strong visuals on your product pages. Consider Shopify academy's product photography course, if you want some guidance on getting impactful product images on your store. These are the images Google will pull to create ads. So make sure they do a good job showing off your product.
7:07
Smart shopping ads are fully automated and made possible by Shopify and Google working together. I rarely think turning on a smart shopping ad is the best way to get started. In the future as you find more time and have more money to spend on advertising, consider getting hands on in the Google Ads manager and building more specific ad campaigns.
7:31
You can run both simultaneously to get the best of both worlds. In the final module, we're going to get back to discussing results. I'll share with you the golden metric-- I always keep an eye on to know, if my advertising is successful. [MUSIC PLAYING]
