Jared Burns’ Bio
Jared Burns is the founder of Sofamade, a smallish web design/development firm based in Denver, Colorado. While Jared’s passion for creating engaging websites and interfaces is obvious, it’s no match for his enthusiasm about building thriving businesses. In a few short months, Jared expanded Sofamade from a one man design shop to a team of talented designers, developers, programmers and business experts located through out the world.
While Jared continues to guide the production of memorable brands, effective business strategies, engaging websites, SEO friendly content and refreshingly simple (useful) web applications through Sofamade, he also has formed a new venture called Pixallent (coming soon), that offers a suite of affordable hosted web applications for businesses of all kinds. By the way, they’re all built with Ruby on Rails too.
Prior to founding Sofamade, Jared worked for the largest communications company in the world, Clear Channel. While learning an abundance about business, design, branding, strategy and technology, Jared’s entrepreneurial personality was much too confined there. So, in 2005 Jared departed from Clear Channel to start Sofamade. Clear Channel now outsources a substantial amount of design work to Sofamade.

Short Interview with Jared Burns
Question: What is the concept behind your design?
Answer: While Shopify’s business, use of technology and web application is very Web 2.0, I didn’t feel the existing default themes reflected that image. So, I set out to build something glossy and progressive, but still subdued enough for many business types, which is why I created three color palettes for flexibility. Basically, I wanted to create a theme with some spark!
Question: Where can people get in contact with you in order to hire you to design Shopify Themes?
Answer: We love working on Shopify themes and excited to take on exciting new projects. Visit http://sofamade.com to get in touch.
Question: What kinds of freelance work do you do?
Answer: Anything that has to do with web design or development – branding, strategy, websites, interfaces, applications, etc…
Question: What’s your day-job?
Answer: It’s Sofamade! While I like to think my primary job is designing, I tend to find myself handling business matters most of the time.
