Shopify Raises $15 Million in Series B Funding
Today, I'm happy to announce that we have raised $15 million in Series B funding. I'm writing this blog post from my new private yacht cruising the clear blue waters of the... no, just kidding.
It's probably no surprise that we're growing quickly. We're the fastest growing ecommerce platform in the world. In 2009 we had 20 employees, and by the end of the year we're going to have close to 100. More importantly, we went from only a few million dollars sold to hundreds of millions a year! Seriously, we see every new store that opens up on Shopify and they are without a doubt the best designed, most stylish, and most amazing stores on the web. Not to mention they're selling some of the coolest products, and a lot of them!
Within the coming weeks and months we have some really exciting announcements to make that will shed some light on how we will use the capital. New product features, new apps, themes, partnerships, and even a few surprises. So keep an eye on our blogs, Twitter, and Facebook to keep up to date. I’m especially excited about the $1M Shopify Fund that we are announcing alongside this funding event.
Every day I feel lucky to be a part of this incredible company with such an amazing team of store owners and employees. It’s an exhilarating feeling that I was there to write the first line of code in Shopify and now we are the company that has the best shot at being the first ever market leader in our humble little industry. Thanks so much for supporting Shopify, and you have my word that we'll remain committed to delivering the best ecommerce solution available.

Congratulations, you’ve done a great job. Shopfy is by far the easiest and most cost effective ecommerce platform for small to medium sized online retailers.

Congratulations Tobi both on the partnership and in general for building a business in Ottawa that provides an alternative for new grads to a future of servitude to the federal gov’t. As an outside observer, it seems you place a value on hiring people not only for their skills but for their intangibles. I’ve met a number of them and appreciate the kind of value their enthusiasm and loyalty must add to the environment.
