Hydrogen, our new React-based web development framework to build custom storefronts powered by Shopify, is now available in developer preview.

Hydrogen’s building blocks enable a mix of static and dynamic data fetching between client and server for optimized performance. The combination of React Server Components, streaming Server-Side Rendering (SSR) with Suspense, and built-in caching policies enable merchants to achieve a balance between optimal commerce and user experience.

Directly report partner violations and critical issues to Shopify
Shopify is committed to trust, safety, and quality in our ecosystem. That's why we've made it easier for you to report partner violations and to notify us about issues on our platform. Please ensure you understand the differences between the two forms below so that we can investigate your case as fast as possible.
Report a partner violation
If you notice a violation against our Partner Program Agreement or API Terms of Use, you can now report it through this form, instead of contacting Shopify Partner Support.
Please ensure your report is a partner term violation rather than a support issue or merchant store violation. Learn more about prohibited actions on the Shopify App Store.
Notify Shopify about an issue
Reporting a critical issue is now easier than ever. If you notice an actual or suspected breach or compromise of Merchant Data or any bugs or issues with Shopify APIs or developer documentation, use this form on the Partners Help Centre to notify Shopify.
Coming soon: Unified Admin
In Q1 2022, we will be migrating the merchant store admin from the myshopify storefront domain to admin.shopify.com. We call this Unified Admin. This change will improve the page load speed across the admin, reduce the number of times that merchants have to reauthenticate, and will improve the experience of working across multiple stores.
Apps will continue to work without any changes required.
However, to ensure you’re supporting the best merchant experience on the new Unified Admin, embedded apps should upgrade to App Bridge 2.0 in order to use the new host parameter. This will allow the embedded app to work within the new admin domain.
Otherwise, the merchant will be redirected to the old myshopify.com domain while using the app. This will be a disruptive experience for the merchant.

Shopify launches Global ERP Program for Shopify Plus Partners
We are excited to announce the Shopify Global ERP Partner Program with our first five flagship enterprise resource planning (ERP) partners, listed below. This is the first time Shopify has partnered directly with ERPs. The Global ERP Partner Program is an extension of our Plus Certified App Program (PCAP).
This program solves the merchant pain points of timely setup, integration costs, and privacy concerns. With the announcement of this new program, we hope to make it easier for Shopify Plus Partners to pitch Shopify Plus to large enterprise clients with existing ERPs while decreasing time-to-launch for your Plus clients. The Global ERP Program also aims to open up more opportunities to work closer with these global partners as they join the ecosystem as official Plus Certified App partners.
Shopify merchants can now connect their ERP solutions for Oracle NetSuite, Infor, Acumatica, and Brightpearl to their Shopify stores. The new Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central integration will be available in early 2022.

Payment Flexibility API
The new Payment Terms API allows developers to build apps that can set due dates on an order and track overdue payments.
Developers can also use the Send_Invoice API, in beta, to trigger payment collection on orders.
Payment terms and overall payment flexibility are important to Shopify merchants, especially those selling B2B, as they allow merchants to improve their buyer experience by offering personalized payment options and reduce the manual effort required to manage and process payments due at a later date.
Learn more about the Payment Terms API and the payment terms object.
Now available: Gift Card API
In 2020, Shopify made Gift Cards available to all merchants in all plans, lifting all restrictions in place.
Now, we are also opening up access to Gift Card APIs to all Shopify developers and partners, allowing you to create Gift Cards from your apps using both the REST and GraphQL APIs.
Follow this tutorial to get started with the Gift Card API.
New featured apps collection: Works with Shopify Markets
With the recent launch of Shopify Markets, we are making international selling easier for all merchants, and we believe your work as developers and Shopify Partners can play an important role in that mission.
Applications that support international selling features will be featured in the Shopify App Store, grouping them in an exclusive “Works with Shopify Markets” collection that will be available for merchants in the future.
Want your app to qualify for consideration? Incorporate some of the capabilities related to cross-border selling that are already available in the platform, such as Multicurrency, Duties, and Translations.
Please see below the list of features that would help your app qualify for this collection, and some guidance on how to get started:
- Multicurrency Apps

- Uses Shopify Payments countries if providing currency switcher capabilities
- Shipping and Delivery/Fulfillment Apps

Developer documentation redesign and new PHP library
Our developer documentation for the Admin API (both GraphQL and REST) have been redesigned to make it easier to consume and navigate. You can be more productive with side-by-side content and code snippets in all supported languages, so you can code faster.
Both the Admin API GraphQL and the Admin API REST documentation are now easier to use and navigate, with examples and code snippets ready to use for Curl, Node, and PHP that you can quickly add to your code with one-click copy-and-paste. This is just the beginning of a series of improvements to ensure a top quality GraphQL experience on shopify.dev.
We’ve also added more specific examples with some of the common use cases for some inspiration, as well as specific response codes and error messaging to help you troubleshoot and get started quickly.
Lastly, a brand new PHP library is now available. It doesn’t have any framework dependencies, so you can use it from any PHP app.
September 2021
In this edition of our monthly product newsletter for Shopify Developers, you’ll find the most important updates you need to know to continue your work with your app users.
Zero percent revenue share annually on your first million dollars in the Shopify Theme Store
We announced at Unite 2021 that we’re changing our revenue share model for our Partner Ecosystem.
As of September 15th at 1PM ET, we’re offering zero percent revenue share on the first million dollars you make annually on the Shopify Theme Store.
That means that if you make less than $1 million USD in the Shopify Theme Store, you will pay zero percent revenue share—and those numbers reset every year. When you make more than $1 million USD, you’ll only pay a 15 percent revenue share on the incremental earnings, reduced from the previous 20 percent. Theme developers who successfully submit a theme to the Shopify Theme Store are automatically enrolled, and there is no registration fee.
The Shopify Theme Store reopened this summer to allow new theme submissions, and new themes compatible with the Online Store 2.0 requirements have begun publishing to the theme store!
The Shopify Theme Store, combined with Online Store 2.0, offers developers the opportunity to make an impact in a relatively untapped marketplace, creating powerful, high-performing themes that help millions of Shopify merchants all over the world express their brand and market their products.
There has never been a better time to build themes for Shopify!
Theme developers new to Shopify can join the Shopify Partner Program and get started building beautiful new OS 2.0 themes for merchants.
Checkout links now powered by Shop Pay
We have updated checkout links with Shop Pay to let your merchants easily share their products with customers and send them directly to the Shop Pay checkout—the fastest, highest converting checkout experience online.
Checkout links can be added to email marketing campaigns, social posts, direct messages, SMS, and more. This also opens the door for merchants with headless commerce sites to take advantage of Shop Pay, for the first time!
Shop Pay’s one-tap checkout securely uses customers’ existing billing and shipping info, so they spend more time filling carts, not forms. Customers without Shop Pay can check out as guests.
To take advantage of this feature, merchants must have Shopify Payments activated as their primary payment gateway and enable Shop Pay in their payment settings.
Creating a better fulfillment experience with the Shopify Fulfillment Orders API
Shopify's Fulfillment Orders API can be used to create a better fulfilment experience for your merchant clients (and their customers), no matter how or where they fulfill orders.
Check out our latest article on the Partner Blog to learn how this API can allow you to build flexible and secure fulfillment apps.

Upgrade to the Fulfillment Orders API
In January 2020, we launched the Fulfillment Orders API. This API models the end-to-end fulfillment process into its sub-pieces, so fulfillment data can sync more accurately between Shopify and an order management app or a fulfillment service (3PL). This API represents the future of fulfilment with Shopify.
Visit the developer documentation to learn how to migrate to the Fulfillment Orders API.
Shop Pay Installments launched for general availability in the US
On June 10, 2021, Shop Pay Installments launched for general availability to merchants in the US. We will be activating Shop Pay Installments for all eligible US merchants unless they have chosen to opt out starting on August 27, 2021, and are running a promotional rate until October 15, 2021.
Shop Pay Installments is a buy now, pay later solution designed specifically for the needs of Shopify merchants. Exclusively powered by Affirm in the US, it allows merchants to give their consumers the flexibility to split their purchases into four equal installments payments, interest-free and with no additional fees.
Shop Pay Installments is fully integrated into Shop Pay, the fastest and best-converting checkout option for merchants. Shop Pay Installments has been proven to boost sales: one in four merchants using it saw 50 percent higher average order value compared to other payment methods. In addition, merchants saw 28 percent fewer abandoned carts through Shop Pay Installments after switching from a third-party buy now, pay later solution.
Learn more about Shop Pay Installments, and learn how to add a Shop Pay Installments banner to a merchant’s product page at the link below.

Zero percent revenue share annually on your first million dollars in the Shopify App Store
As of August 1, 2021, we’re offering zero percent revenue share on the first million dollars you make annually on the Shopify App Store.
That means that if you make less than $1 million USD per year in the Shopify App Store, you can register to no longer pay revenue share. And every year, those numbers reset. When you earn more than $1 million USD, you’ll pay a 15 percent revenue share, which is lower than the previous 20 percent revenue share.
This change means more money in your pocket: money to invest in your business, grow your resources, and build more solutions for Shopify merchants. It’s our way of showing how serious we are about supporting developers.
We’ll also be introducing a one-time registration fee for all developers who sign up after August 1, which will be paid when they submit their first app to be reviewed. All the more reason to sign up and start building your app today!
Starting August 1 at 1pm EST, you’ll be able to register directly in your Partner Dashboard for this new revenue share. Learn more in our documentation.
Announcing Online Store 2.0
At Shopify Unite, we announced an end-to-end overhaul of how themes are built at Shopify, with the release of Online Store 2.0. With sections on every page, moveable and app-powered blocks, better metafields, and a suite of new developer tools, Online Store 2.0 marks a new world for developers and a complete rebuild of how merchants interact with the online store.
Online Store 2.0 is designed to accelerate and improve theme development at Shopify. Not only is it easier for merchants to add customizations without touching code, but apps can be injected without editing theme code and metafields are no longer only accessed via APIs or hard-coded into themes.
Learn more via the link below, including how to migrate your themes and apps, and how to submit themes to the soon-to-reopen Shopify Theme Store.
Post-purchase checkout extension beta now available to all developers
The post-purchase checkout extension is now available to all developers in beta. This extension renders on an interstitial page after the buyer checks out but before the thank-you page, allowing you to build unique experiences for merchants to interact with a highly engaged audience.
Learn more about the post-purchase checkout extension and the different solutions you can build on the blog.

These changes include the elimination of minimum sales thresholds, updated value-added tax (VAT) rates, and a choice of how to remit taxes. To help merchants comply with these changes, we’ve added options to the tax settings in Shopify.
It’s important that you take the time to understand how these changes can impact merchants. You can find more information on the EU’s One Stop Shop VAT site and in our recent blog article on the topic. Visit our Help Center for more information about EU taxes and Shopify.

This allows you to download this information to your respective reporting and analytics systems and make your business operations more efficient.
More granular permissions for the Partner Dashboard
Two new staff permissions have been added to the Partner Dashboard, giving you more granular control over what your organization’s staff members can access.
- View referrals grants access to the Referrals page.
- Manage affiliate campaigns grants access to the Affiliate tools page, and affiliate tools on the Referrals page. Staff members with this permission can also manage affiliate campaigns. This permission is available only to organizations that are part of the Shopify Affiliate Program.
Access to these features was previously controlled by the Manage shops permission. Staff members in your organization who have the Manage shops permission are granted View referrals as part of this update. If you are part of the Shopify Affiliate Program, then staff members who have the Manage shops permission are also granted the Manage affiliate campaigns permission as part of this update.
