# What interviews to expect

Shopify’s hiring process is designed to make sure you’re right for Shopify, right now. Here’s an overview of our typical interview program so you know what to expect.

The number and type of interviews you’ll be invited will depend on the role you’re applying for.

Craft > everything at Shopify.

We’re a company of world-class crafters and hire people dedicated to pursuing excellence in their field that already meet our high craft bar. We’ll assess your personal journey towards mastery, then your potential to go broader and deeper in novel ways. We want you to show us what you do best, and how you do it.

This stage assesses how your craft expertise holds up to Shopify’s high bar. The first part of this stage involves taking an online assessment, which is designed to assess your cognitive ability and aptitude for the job you’re applying for.

The second part of this stage involves a craft assessment.

For engineering roles, this includes a pair programming interview to write code to solve a problem. For UX, there’s a portfolio review. For product management, a problem statement to solve. We’ll let you know in advance what to expect and how to best prepare.

We’re going to be honest with you. Working at Shopify can be really hard depending on your individual mindset and personality. For the right people, working here is exhilarating and leads to unlimited growth and impact.

You need to be comfortable working in an ambiguous environment and be able to sustain high performance at an unrelenting pace.

Our interview process is designed to help you decide if Shopify is an environment where you’ll do your best work. If you realize it’s not, chat to your recruiter. We’ll respect your decision if you decide to opt out.
