Say goodbye to long lineups at the post office!
Starting today, you can buy and print USPS shipping labels directly through Shopify which will save you both time and money.
When you buy your shipping labels through Shopify you’ll receive preferred shipping rates that we've negotiated on behalf of all Shopify merchants. For example, the cost to ship a 5lb package from New York City to Chicago is $16.20 if you walk into a USPS location today. When you use Shopify to buy and print that label, you would pay just $11.26 on our Basic plan, $10.53 on Pro, or $9.80 on the Unlimited plan (a 40% savings).
When you’re ready to ship, put the label on the box and drop it off at any USPS location. Because you’ve prepaid the shipping costs, you’ll be able to skip the line. Or better yet, you can avoid the post office altogether by scheduling a free home pick up from USPS’s website.
How do I print shipping labels in Shopify?
To buy and print a shipping label, click “Buy shipping label” from an order’s fulfillment screen. Then choose your box size and shipping method (First Class, Priority, or Priority Express). We’ll calculate the shipping cost for you based on your source and destination addresses, package weight and dimensions, shipping method, and then discount it based on your Shopify plan. The cost for each label will be added to your Shopify bill.
You don’t need any special equipment to print shipping labels, just a regular printer and some clear packing tape will do. But, if you’re a high-volume shipper, or you’re tired of fumbling with printer paper and rolls of tape, you'll want to buy some supplies. Visit the Shopify hardware store to stock up on everything you’ll need for a do-it-yourself shipping station including label printers, scales, and labels.

Get started with shipping labels
All Shopify merchants shipping domestically or internationally from the United States can start buying and printing their USPS shipping labels in Shopify. You don’t need to pre-pay your shipping labels or sign up for a separate shipping account. Just log into Shopify, choose an order to fulfill, and click “Buy shipping label” to get started.
For the time being, only American merchants can buy shipping labels through Shopify, but we’re actively working to make shipping labels available in other countries and through other delivery services.

Shopify Shipping Labels FAQ
How much can sellers save by buying USPS labels through Shopify?
Merchants can save close to 40% off retail USPS rates because Shopify negotiates discounted shipping rates on behalf of all merchants. A 5-pound package shipped from New York City to Chicago costs $16.20 at a USPS counter, but only $9.80 to $11.26 through Shopify depending on plan tier. Higher-tier plans unlock steeper discounts, so exact savings depend on which plan a store is using.
Can I skip the post office line when shipping with a Shopify label?
Yes, prepaying for a shipping label lets sellers skip the counter line entirely and simply drop the package off at any USPS location. Packages can also be handed to a carrier during a free home pickup scheduled through USPS's website. This removes the need to wait in line or visit a retail counter to weigh and pay for postage.
Do I need special equipment to print shipping labels?
No special equipment is required — a standard printer along with clear packing tape is enough to print and attach a Shopify shipping label. Sellers who ship high volumes or want a dedicated setup can buy label printers, scales, and label rolls built for a do-it-yourself shipping station. These extras speed up fulfillment but aren't necessary to get started.
How is the shipping label cost billed to my Shopify account?
The cost of each shipping label is calculated automatically based on package weight, dimensions, and shipping method, then added directly to the seller's Shopify bill. Sellers don't pay USPS directly or need a separate postage account. Shopify handles payment and applies the discounted rate tied to the store's plan on the regular invoice.
Which carrier does Shopify support for buying shipping labels?
Shopify currently supports USPS for purchasing and printing discounted shipping labels directly from the admin. Sellers can choose First Class, Priority, or Priority Express service when buying a label, with rates discounted according to their Shopify plan. Support for additional carriers and countries is being actively worked on.
