What are the accepted payment types?

Can I choose an external card reader with Shopify POS?
Yes, you can use an external card reader with Shopify POS, even if it is not supported by Shopify. You can find an external terminal provider anywhere in the world, and because the payment is processed outside of Shopify, you don't have to set up a specific payment provider in your Shopify admin.
However, there are some disadvantages to using an external terminal. Firstly, you need to have an account with your terminal provider. Additionally, Shopify will only show the payment status of an order, but not any transaction details.
How do I connect a card reader to Shopify POS?
The process for connecting a card reader to Shopify POS varies depending on the specific card reader being used. Here are the steps for connecting two different card readers:
WisePad 3 card reader:
Press and release the power button to turn on the reader.
- In Shopify POS, tap ≡ > Settings > Set up hardware.
- Tap Card reader.
- On the Select Reader page, tap WisePad 3.
- When the card reader appears beneath Available card readers, tap Connect beside it.
Note: When you pair the WisePad 3 card reader to your POS device for the first time, the reader will perform an automatic update which may take 8 to 10 minutes.
