Yes. When you migrate from QuickBooks Desktop POS to Shopify POS, a built-in importer tool imports your POS data and works with your QuickBooks Desktop Accounting Software for an ongoing sync of your accounting data.

It’s easy to complete the process yourself using the built-in application. It can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on your POS setup and the amount of data you have. We created a step-by-step guide to help guide you through the process and a dedicated Shopify support member can assist you through chat, phone, or email.

Here’s what you can expect during the migration:

1. Shopify built a custom application that will be pre-installed in your Shopify POS account to help guide you through the migration process. You will see two options when you log in to Shopify on your account overview screen. The first will be to “Migrate” your QuickBooks Desktop POS data from QuickBooks to Shopify. It’s important to complete this step first. This app will walk you through a series of steps where you will go back and forth between QuickBooks and Shopify, using the instructions provided on the screen. After this process is complete, you will see your product information appear in Shopify POS.
2. The next step will be to create an ongoing sync between your new Shopify POS account and your QuickBooks Desktop Accounting Software to ensure any data changes that occur in QuickBooks will be reflected in your Shopify account.

No, this is not required. If you are using the same product offering, you need to update your software to the product's latest release. You do not need to pay for software updates if you have already paid for the product offering.

For example, if you are updating from QuickBooks Desktop POS V19 R1 to QuickBooks Desktop POS V19 R7, then you do not need to pay.

However, if you are upgrading from QuickBooks Desktop POS V12, you will need to pay to upgrade to QuickBooks Desktop POS V19 in order to migrate to Shopify.

Customers will need to be on a supported version of QuickBooks Desktop Accounting Software (2021 or later) in order to integrate with Shopify. Subscription customers may need to download the latest version and release.

The following QuickBooks Accounting products are compatible with Shopify:

Hardware selection or purchase is not required to use Shopify POS. Shopify Payments and certain features do not require hardware, but will benefit from a purchase for full functionality. The full list of compatible hardware, and where to purchase, are available here.

Shopify does not yet offer the ability to purchase a POS plan without also selecting an ecommerce plan. This is something we hope to offer soon. A monthly commitment of a Shopify ecommerce plan is required with the purchase of any Shopify POS software plan.

The QuickBooks Desktop POS system supports USB connectivity. If your receipt printer is a USB connection type, such as the Star Micronics TSP100IIIU (USB) collection, it is not compatible with Shopify POS, which is based on iOS and Android devices. Shopify POS does not support receipt printers with USB connection.

If your receipt printer is the mPOP version, this version is compatible with Shopify POS, but only via Bluetooth connection. The mPOP receipt printer is not supported via USB connection.

You can choose any other TSP143III model receipt printer offered by Shopify. Shopify recommends the TSP143III WIFI for seamless and reliable connectivity. The Star Micronics TSP143III WIFI is part of the selected hardware collection eligible for discount for QuickBooks Desktop POS migration merchants.

Yes. The 16” Star Micronics CD3 cash drawer that most QuickBooks Desktop POS merchants use is the same cash drawer that Shopify sells. It is fully supported by Shopify POS.
