Spring Into a New Job

Spring Into a New Job

Do you want to be a Shopify Guru? Our support team is now running 24/7, so we are looking for Gurus to help out on Evenings, Weekends and Overnights to help out our merchants around the clock.

While we’re not huge fans of traditional interviews here at Shopify, we are HUGE fans of parties. So instead of inviting you in for a ho-hum one-on-one, we’re hosting a big bash for potential Shopify Gurus on April 18th from 7-10pm. Specific location is TBA, but it will be in Ottawa, Canada.

You’ll get to hang out with fun people who are interested in working at Shopify, chat about the potential job, have a few laughs – and a few drinks! You can meet the people who might become your colleagues, and get a great feel for the job, the space, and Shopify’s culture.

But wait! Before you jump on the party bus, you should probably know exactly what a Shopify Guru is:

Shopify Guru
[shaw-puh-fahy goo-roo]
1. A rare, interesting character who gets a kick out of helping Shopify’s customers get their stores up and running.  A guru is comfortable on the phone and can type like a maniac. In the wild, gurus are often spotted laughing at or telling a great joke, as they have a naturally keen sense of humour.

Space is limited, so this party is invite-only. If you’re interested in attending, please enter your info in the provided fields at the bottom of one of our Guru job postings: weekend and evenings and overnight.

Mention in your application that you want to attend our Guru party on April 18th, and we’ll be in touch!

I found your invite via peter’s jobs. While I’m not a guru…yet -lol I am currently taking Interactive Multimedia at Algonquin College and have 6+ years experience in graphic design. I thought maybe coming in to see what you’re all about could be fun, no?

Please let me know if this works for you… I can also send a note to my class if you’re looking for more to join?

    Hey Gina,

We’d love to have you apply and come check us out. The interview process is as much for us to get to know you, as it is for you to get to know us and the job :)

Sending a note/link to this post to your class would be great.

Let us know if you have any questions!

I would love to be able to possess a golden ticket to board this party bus!

    A Very Interested Candidate :)

    Hey Gina,

I was wondering about daytime positions, I noticed on the main career page there are regular-hour Guru jobs available, would any of the information that night be relevant to that or is it specific to evenings and overnight/weekends?

Regardless, I would love to attend I just wanted to confirm if there were openings for daytime aswell!

    Thank you!

    Hey there, me again!

I took a couple hours out of my day to create a Shopify store to help you get to know me a little better and make a decision on a potential invitation to the mixer. So have a look!

    Hey Jen,

I’ve applied for the guru position via a friend of mine who currently works at Shopify and he suggested I register for this as a great way to get things started. Let me know if there is anything else you require from me!

    All the best,

Hello, I’d love to be a guru, and I have no problems working evenings, weekends or overnights. This sounds quite interesting, and the adventurous person that I am, loves to try new things. I graduated from Algonquin in marketing..

Seemingly I am still confounded by “Spring Ahead, Fall Back”? So hopefully you can still accept my attendance for the Guru party tomorrow night? My application was freshly submitted today.

In the past 4 months, at least 3 people in 3 different networks have recommended that I check out Shopify, ’cause they seemed to think i would fit in with the unique culture. So I when I heard about this event (a little late, obviously) my first thought was that it sounded partying like its 1999!! except with much more internet access and better styles…then my SECOND thought was what a great opportunity to see if all those people were right!
Anywho, needless to say Im quite interested in getting my hands on a ticket for the event tomorrow! Can someone help me out??!

I sent in my application but I was redirected to a blank page, I wasn’t too sure if it went through so I sent it to the regular and the overnight Guru position. I would love an invite, if you did receive my application, take a look at my Shopify store ;)

    Have a great day!

Just directed to this link. I’m driving and typing like a mad man, at red lights granted (eyes on the road and hands on the wheel as my mother said…but, she also told me that drinking milk on hot days makes your bones stick together—the old wives tales she tells). Regardless, sending my CV as soon as I get through the door. Consider me so we can high five together and do that quack-quack thing like in the mighty ducks like a team! Let me be your Charlie Conway to my Coach Bombay!

I attended the Guru party last night and I have to say it was a very unique and fun way to learn about Shopify, it’s culture and to personally meet their outgoing team. Best of luck to all the candidates that attended!
