Two new product updates help merchants sell anywhere
OTTAWA, ON – March 31, 2015 – Shopify, the leading cloud-based commerce platform that allows anyone to easily sell online, at their retail location, and everywhere in between, today announced two new product updates to its platform. The company is releasing Multichannel Shopify and updates to Shopify POS.
Multichannel Shopify makes it easier for merchants to manage and sell their products across all sales channels. Today’s merchants are finding that their customers—and consequently their sales—are being spread across many different online and offline sales channels. In addition to selling through an online store, merchants can sell in a brick-and-mortar location, a pop-up shop, through online marketplaces, on social media, and more.
“The way you sell things has changed, and it will continue to change as your customers keep exploring new sales channels,” said Satish Kanwar, Director of Product, Shopify. “With Multichannel Shopify, you’ll now be able to easily manage those sales channels, and do so in a way that provides an amazing shopping experience.”
Now when merchants log into their Shopify admin they’ll see that it has been redesigned. Shopify Home is the first screen they’ll see and it provides an overview of the entire business, with all sales channels combined. It’s a personalized feed of data-driven insights, suggested tasks, and notifications that can help a business owner prioritize the things that matter most. Additionally, the new admin includes a reorganized left navigation to accommodate additional sales channels. Each sales channel contains it’s own features and an overview that shows you how it’s performing.
The three sales channels included in today’s release are:
- Online Store - Shopify hosted ecommerce website and secure shopping cart.
- Point of Sale - Sell in person with Shopify POS—available on iPhone and iPad. Now included in all Shopify plans.
- Buy Buttons - Turn any website into an online store—works with Wordpress, Squarespace, Tumblr, and more! Now included in all Shopify plans.
Shopify also announced updates to its point of sale app, Shopify POS. It is now available on the iPhone, and free for all Shopify merchants. With the new Shopify POS, merchants can now accept cash, credit, debit, and gift cards on an iPhone and iPad. Brick-and-mortar businesses can upgrade to a Retail Package for more advanced features.
The key element of Shopify POS is that it seamlessly integrates with an online store so products, orders and customers are always in sync. Bridging this gap between online and offline selling is an important step forward in our mission to make commerce better.
