Top of the World is Ottawa's oldest and largest skate shop. The store is owned by Eric Dionne and Corey Hackett, who have been involved with the brand from the beginning. We stock the top brands in the industry and have deep roots in Canada's skateboard community.
How did you earn your first sales? Which channels are now generating the most traffic and sales for you?
Until this past year, our only traffic was from customers in store. We did not have an online store nor did we have a digital inventory system. We were basically running the most barebones and prehistoric POS/inventory system until we went with shopify in 2013.
Tell us about the back-end of your business. What tools and apps do you use to run your store? How do you handle shipping and fulfillment?
We now run shopify's instore POS to manage our sales as well as our inventory. The transition was a little scary but now we're pros and have saved so much time with the new system. We can now track everything all in one place!
The online store has come a long way since we developed and we're hoping it keeps growing and represent a larger percentage of our overall sales, and we're on the right track.
What are your top recommendations for new ecommerce entrepreneurs?
Be patient and keep it simple. From design to stock keeping, don't over complicate things.
