Taylor has always had a love of fashion and in 2012 after working in the industry for 10 years she decided it was time to branch out on her own. With the help of her husband Ben, they launched Hazel and Olive with just $300. Ben's business mind and Taylor's creativity started a business that was unstoppable. Within the first 8 months of business they had over a million dollars in sales.
How did you earn your first sales? Which channels are now generating the most traffic and sales for you?
Thanks to great friends and word of mouth through social media, Hazel and Olive quickly became a well known brand.
Tell us about the back-end of your business. What tools and apps do you use to run your store? How do you handle shipping and fulfillment?
Thanks to Ben's background in business and IT, he decided we should use Shopify which helped launch our online business further than we could have imagined. Through combining Shopify with our on site fulfillment, we are able to ship orders out the same day they are placed.
What are your top recommendations for new ecommerce entrepreneurs?
Be willing to put in the hours. We started out working 18 hour days, 7 days a week. We had to sacrifice a lot in the beginning but it was totally worth it and paid off. We would also suggest running a debt free business. We took our initial $300, turned it to $600, then $1,200 and so forth. Now we are still a debt free business and it feels great knowing that you don't owe anyone anything.
