Brownfield's is Estes Park, Colorado's favorite store! Known for having something for everyone at prices that can’t be beat, Brownfield's has been serving the people of Estes Park since 1956.
The original store was oriented toward saddles and other horse goods and included western wear and cowboy boots. Merchandise is now geared toward the current trend of hiking and other outdoor activities. Hiking shoes and outerwear make up a large share of the store's goods, along with t-shirts, sweatshirts, and souvenir items of the area. Brownfield’s has the largest selection of souvenir items with highest quality and best prices.
How did you earn your first sales? Which channels are now generating the most traffic and sales for you?
On September 12, 2013, a major flood devastated Estes Park. Our physical store was totally flooded. The town suffered enormous loss. We are a mountain town located at the base of Rocky Mountain National Park. Three of the four roads leading in and out of town suffered extensive damage and were closed. It was the height of our autumn tourist season, and we lost all of our business. It took weeks to get the roads repaired. The estimated loss of business to our town was $90 million. Our business lost $95,000 due to the flood.
Five days after the flood, we launched our Shopify online store. Needless to say, we were "flooded with support"! Our new online store gave people all over the world the opportunity to support us and shop in Estes Park. It was a huge blessing! It increased our bank account when there was no local business and boosted our morale.
Tell us about the back-end of your business. What tools and apps do you use to run your store? How do you handle shipping and fulfillment?
We use the Facebook store app, the link variant images app, as well as the reviews app. We use the United States Postal Service flat rate shipping program. The Shopify support team has been incredible in answering our questions and trouble-shooting problems. We have recommended Shopify to many others.
