Airplants have a personality all their own. Thumbing their nose at convention, airplants live without soil, free in the air. Mild mannered Josh Rosen was captured by their powerful allure and Airplantman was born.
On the go and with limited space, Airplantman needed a creative solution to display and care for his beloved airplant entourage. Not just any design would do; it must elevate airplant display to an art form, be simple to use and healthy for airplants. As a landscape architect, artist, and horticulturalist, Airplantman was up to the challenge. Built with an eye for fine design, craftsmanship, sustainability, and a genuine obsession for all things airplant, the Airplantman Designs product line was introduced to the world.
Vertical gardening should be easy. Motivated by this belief and a love for elegant design with a fun factor, Airplantman has changed the way we look at plants. Airplants (tillandsia) thrive suspended in air, unconstrained by the limits of soil. This incredible ability, combined with their otherworldly forms, inspired Airplantman to create products as unique as the plants themselves. Designed so everyone can create their own living artwork, the Airplantman product line showcases tillandsia’s airborne nature – truly nature elevated.
Current product lines include the AirplantFrame and the AirplantVessel. Airplantman Designs offers hand-crafted quality and local production 100% made in California.
How did you earn your first sales? Which channels are now generating the most traffic and sales for you?
Airplantman's very first sales came through strategic partnerships with brick and mortar landscaping and nursery shops. As the products began to receive press and accolades throughout the web (as seen in Daily Candy, Design Milk, Remodelista, Cool Hunting, etc.) it became clear the brand needed an outlet to sell directly to shoppers online. Shopify provided all of the tools Airplantman needed to quickly and efficiently offer online sales of his products to airplant lovers around the globe. Press and blog features continue to send online traffic to the Airplantman Designs Shopify store.
Tell us about the back-end of your business. What tools and apps do you use to run your store? How do you handle shipping and fulfillment?
Airplantman tracks inventory, billing, orders etc. through the Shopify dashboard. A busy landscape architect who is often on job sites, when Josh is on the move he uses the Shopify app on his iPhone to see what's happening. All orders are personally fulfilled, packed and shipped from Airplantman studios.
