Currency conversion

A 2.5% fee* for currency conversion is automatically built into your product prices to offset the cost to you (this is only automatic with default pricing and does not apply for fixed cost price lists). While this fee is passed to customers, it provides an improved experience where customers have full price transparency at checkout instead of incurring credit card charges for currency exchange. A 2.5% fee for currency conversion will appear on your payout statement.

Shopify Markets core features cost nothing to activate. Fees for international sales will only apply on orders where payment processing, duties and import taxes, or currency conversion are used.

Local payment processing

Fees for using local payment methods are included as part of Shopify Payments international payment processing—so on Shopify Payments, you pay nothing additional for international orders. The average blended rate for payments when selling internationally is 3.9%.

0.85% per transaction

Duties and import taxes calculator

A 0.85% fee applies to orders where duties and import taxes are calculated with Shopify Payments (1.5% with alternative payment providers). Available only to Advanced and Plus merchants.

Frequently asked questions

The only upfront cost to take your store global is the cost of your monthly Shopify plan.

Fees for Markets Pro or select paid features with Markets are billed on a per-transaction basis as you make international sales. You’re also not locked into any contract periods so that you can try features without commitment.
Transaction fees for international sales will be automatically debited from each sale made through Shopify, and the amount will depend on the international selling option you choose—either the Markets Pro all-in-one bundle, or individual features of Markets.

Markets Pro removes applicable fees and taxes from your weekly Markets Pro payout. For a breakdown of the fees, view the Payouts tab under Finances.

Fees for currency conversion are debited from each sale, but the fee is also added to your customer’s price to help you offset your costs (this does not apply when using fixed cost price lists).
